Victims of slavery today can often be invisible unless you know what you are looking for and can ask the right questions. We want everyone to be prepared, share these signs and questions.

Look for these clues:

They are being controlled.

They are unable to move or leave their job.

They have signs of physical abuse such as bruises or scars.

Show signs of fear or depression.

Cannot speak on their own behalf or cannot speak the country's language.

They have no form of identification such as a passport or other papers.

Ask these questions:

What type of work do you do?

Are you being paid?

Can you leave your job if you wanted to?

Can you come and go as you please?

Have you or your family been threatened?

What are your working and living conditions like?

Where do you sleep and eat?

Do you have to ask permission to eat/sleep/go to the bathroom?

Are there locks on your doors/windows so you cannot get out?

Has your identification or documentation been taken from you?
