History

Andrew Forrest and his wife Nicola found out about modern-day slavery from their teenage daughter who witnessed it while working in a Nepalese orphanage. That experience, combined with frequent visits to Nepal, exposed the family to the reality and horrors of child trafficking and other forms of modern slavery. The Forrests launched the Walk Free Foundation in May 2012.

The Walk Free Foundation is an initiative of Hope for Children Organization Australia Ltd., a not-for-profit organization. It is headquartered in Perth, Western Australia and has about 20 staff members as well as a team of researchers and campaigners in the field.

Mission

Its mission is to end modern slavery in this generation by mobilizing a global activist movement, generating the highest quality research, enlisting businesses and raising unprecedented levels of capital to drive change in those countries and industries bearing the greatest responsibility for modern slavery today.
