Nepal Dalit Jagaran Kendra

In 2015, Nepal Dalit Jagaran Kendra (NDJK) worked in three village development committee areas of Siraha District, aiming to liberate bonded laborers and empower them to reduce their vulnerability. They did this by carrying out non-formal adult education, including discussions about specific human rights and how to identify actions to address root causes of slavery. They held afterschool tutoring classes and child clubs to sustain children’s school attendance and help them share knowledge in the communities. They arranged health camps in the communities and formed self-help groups so that women could save together and invest in income generating activities. They helped community members strengthen their demands on local government for their basic rights.
