Community Development Forum Nepal

History

CDF was established in 1994 by a group of people with experience in community development activities at the grassroots level. It focuses on socioeconomic development issues in rural communities. This encompasses leadership training, community mobilization for income generating activities and rural infrastructure upgrading. Equally addressed are health and sanitation issues, HIV/AIDS, human rights, advocacy against gender and caste-based discrimination and, finally, peace and development. In the Siraha District of Nepal, CDF forms community groups of those in bonded labor so that they can learn about human rights, debt bondage, trafficking, migration and reproductive health. It assists these groups to meet with village officials to advocate for their rights and entitlements. CDF also ensures that children of families in bonded labor can access education at local schools, as well as after school tutoring and child clubs. It forms savings and credit groups for women in these families so that they can develop independent livelihood options and vocational skills.
