Volunteer Opportunities: Yes

History

Beyond Borders was founded in response to Jesus' challenge for a life of radical love. In all that it does, the organization attempts to measure its success by this standard. Organization members welcome all - regardless of faith - who will join them in supporting the movement for liberation. They find strength and wisdom in the dialogue that diversity allows.

Since they began working in Haiti more than 20 years ago, the organization's members have discovered that lasting change in a community comes from residents themselves - not from outsiders. Successful movements for social justice are led by members of the communities most in need of that justice. In collaboration with its Haitian partners, Beyond Borders uses a wide range of tools and community organizing strategies to help those who have been most excluded and exploited to harness their own power as agents for positive, lasting change.

Mission

Beyond Borders helps people build movements to liberate themselves from oppression and isolation. In Haiti and the United States, it brings people together for just and lasting change. It supports movements in Haiti to end child slavery, guarantee universal access to education, end violence against women and girls and replace systems that oppress the poor with systems that support dignified work and sustainable livelihoods.
