Women and girls account for an estimated 70% of the world’s 40.3 million enslaved population. That is nearly three quarters. This is based off of the 2017 Global Estimates of Modern Slavery—the latest estimates collected by the Walk Free Foundation and the International Labor Organization (ILO).

Since women and girls account for more than half the world’s enslaved population, it is critical to understanding how and why modern day slavery affects them.  This includes both victims of sex trafficking and forced labor.

In honor of International Women's Day, locate and join an organization that specializes in fighting against modern day slavery for women and girls and help end slavery now. Some notable ones include: Rights4Girls, Polaris Project, International Justice Mission, and the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women.
