Many hotel and motel chains and franchises are aware that human trafficking is happening on their premises. As a result, these businesses have begun adopting strategies to recognize the signs of trafficking and reaching out to survivors. The Econo Lodge Franchisee Association (ELFA) has gone a step further.
Recently, ELFA partnered with Businesses Ending Slavery and Trafficking (BEST) to provide training on recognizing and reporting human trafficking. The goal is for hotel owners to go back to their hotels and pass their training on to their staff. As one participant reported: "It’s very important to any hotel. We know this is happening throughout the world at hotels, and it’s not just hotels, but at gas stations, rest stops and other places too.”
