Celebrate the Passing of the FOSTA-SESTA Bill
The FOSTA-SESTA bill will make it possible for federal and state prosecutors to target websites that host sex-trafficking ads and enables victims and state attorneys general to file lawsuits against those sites. FOSTA is the nickname for the bill with its title, “Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act.”
The bill went into effect immediately, making its impact felt across the United States. As a result of this passing, the ad-sharing website Backpage.com was shut down—the website that is the focus of the 2017 documentary, “I Am Jane Doe.”
